South Florida Fourth of July Celebrations

Posted on Fort Lauderdale, Holidays, The Cooler Blog June 24, 2016

Independence Day was established in 1776 to commemorate the day that the thirteen colonies were officially considered to be a new nation independent of the British Empire. Since then, Americans have been celebrating this day with barbecues, tri-colored popsicles, and fireworks. After all, what’s better than watching your family and friends relax and enjoy a day of fun? There are special events happening throughout South Florida. We’ve put together a list of the best reviewed:

Gulfstream Park – Freedom Fest

This event kicks off the weekend of Independence Day, starting on July 2nd. The free, three-day celebration will feature family-friendly entertainment of all kinds like live thoroughbred racing, giveaways for great prizes, and fun family activities.
There will also be a special sale happening with up to 70% some of the amazing brands that take up residence at Gulfstream Village. Ten Palms Restaurant will be offering specials on Saturday and Sunday, and classic barbecue will be available Monday.

Fort Lauderdale 4th of July Spectacular

Every year Fort Lauderdale Beach is home to the 4th of July Spectacular! One of the most popular events on this list, there is live music, bounce houses, face painting, eating contests, and games taking place right on the sand. As the day winds down, the event is punctuated with a thirty-minute firework display.

4th of July Village Street Festival

Starting a 5:00 p.m. on July 4th, the Street Festival in North Beach Village is jam-packed with music, games, and delicious food like burgers, nachos, and ice cream. Best of all, the event takes places just one block away from the $th of July Spectacular on Fort Lauderdale Beach (above), so you can easily move between the two events.

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea July 4th Celebration

Start the fun early in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea with the annual town parade at 10:00 a.m. Then, the fun continues at 11:30 at El Prado Park. The event, presented by the town’s Volunteer Fire Department, will have water slides and a fire truck, delicious food, and family-friendly activities. The fireworks display starts at 9:00 just north of Commercial Boulevard.

Old Fashioned Fourth

If you’ve never visited Flamingo Gardens, this event is a great introduction to the botanical garden and wildlife sanctuary; on July 4th admission will be half-price. You’ll be able to enjoy the beautiful natural landscape, see a variety of wildlife, and there will be special activities happening in honor of Independence Day. Potato sack races, spoon races, pie eating contests, and more will be happening over the course of the afternoon. A special menu will be available at the garden’s eateries, there will be a DJ playing 50’s and 60’s music, and guided tours and wildlife encounters taking place.

City of Miramar’s 4th of July Celebration

From 7-9 p.m. at the 173-acre Miramar Regional Park, the city’s special July 4th celebration will commence. There will be a DJ, food trucks, and a firework show. The event will also feature fun activities for kids like bounce houses, water slides, and more. Best of all, the park’s standard admission fee will be waived making the event is free for everyone.

With all of the great events happening in various cities across South Florida, it’s no wonder Fourth of July is such an anticipated holiday. Where will you be taking your family this July 4th weekend?
