family-friendly spring break activities in south florida

Don’t let the heat scare you – South Florida is the perfect place to escape to for a Family Spring Break! While we’re lucky enough to be able to work and live here, we can’t recommend this area enough for a beach getaway. With no shortage of beaches from Miami to Fort Lauderdale, there’s also a variety of tourist destinations that are sure to be a hit with your family!

Consider the following 4 ways to spend Spring Break with your family.

Hollywood Beach

Known as one of the most family-destinations in South Florida, Hollywood is the perfect place to visit for a proper beach getaway. The wide beach offers plenty of space for your kids to play, in addition to the amazing boardwalk that’s fit for biking, rollerblading, or an evening stroll! Plus, a stay at the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort can offer even more in the way of entertainment, including three pools and a hut to rent kayaks!

Children’s Rainforest Garden

To really take advantage of the natural beauty of South Florida, Ann Goldstein’s Children’s Rainforest Garden is a must-see! One-part education and one-part breathtaking, this spot will provide your kids with endless opportunities to explore natural life in ways you can’t anywhere else. The Children’s Rainforest Garden features the 100-year old Banyan Tree, a 12-foot waterfall, a safe rope bridge, and more!

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park

Located in the northernmost Florida Key, Key Largo, the John Pennekamp State Park is only an hour away from the city! Boasting some of the best marine life in the entire country, your family will be in awe of the aquatic creatures and natural features of the Florida Keys. The park even offers Glassbottom Boat Tours, giving your family a front-row seat to the underwater life! On top of your usual water-based activities like snorkeling, swimming and kayaking, the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park is sure to please everyone in the family!

Siesta Key

It should come at no surprise that two beaches landed on this list, but a quick trip to Siesta Key will show you why. Famous for its sand that is fine as sugar and quartz-white, this public beach is free to explore and spend some time relaxing. Siesta Key has no shortage of outdoor dining, coffee shops, and shopping, so make sure to grab your sunscreen and head for the beach!
