How To Choose The Best Air Conditioner For Your Home

Posted on Blogs January 30, 2014 by Terry Jones

With so many different options on the market, shopping for a new air conditioner can be overwhelming at times. From SEER ratings to cooling capacities, there’s a lot to absorb and even more to choose from when trying to cool down your home. It doesn’t have to be complicated, though, and our experts at All Year Cooling are here to help.

Seasonal Energy Efficient Ratio

The greater the Seasonal Energy Efficient Ratio, or SEER, the more energy efficient the air conditioning unit is. A unit’s SEER rating is determined by dividing the annual watt-hours it uses by its seasonal cooling capacity, which is its Btu output. The government has set a required minimum SEER number of 13, and an air conditioning unit must have a rating of 14 SEER before it can be called an Energy Star Product.

13 SEER Systems Versus 16 SEER Systems

Though a higher ranked SEER unit may be more expensive initially, it will pay for itself in the long run. The annual operating cost of a 3 ton, 13 SEER unit is approximately $930, while the cost for a 16 SEER one is just $760. We pride ourselves on providing our customers with a variety of different units with various SEER ratings.
