We continue our South Florida series of blog posts, uncovering all the places that we think are ‘cool’ in the area. We’ve been installing ACs in this community for over 40 years now, and love to share our favorite places. Our latest focus for our blog is the Island City, otherwise known as Wilton Manors. While the population of the city isn’t very large (just under 12,000 residents), it packs a lot of diversity. As an example, Wilton Manors ranks 2nd in the US for percentage of gay residents compared to the total population (14%). The diversity of the population influences the neighborhood, and creates a truly unique community that is chock full of creative small businesses.
These are some of our favorites…
When we want to go bowling in Broward County, Manor Lanes is our go-to choice. Unlike a lot of bowling alleys in the area (which are all mostly great), this one has a very old school, independent feel. The sign that welcomes you into the parking lot (just to the outside of the above photo) is vintage, and we love it.
Storks Bakery and Coffee House has been in the neighborhood for a while. It’s a great place to meet up to grab some quality java and a slice of cake. Pro tip: don’t miss out on the Chocolate Decadence cake.
Don’t be scared by the cryptic logo, The Alchemist serves up a great mason jar of coffee (yes, mason jar) and delicious teas. Bonus: you can enjoy these tasty beverages in a garden.
The NY Grilled Cheese company brings us back to our childhood with their yummy homemade-tasting grilled cheese sandwiches. Bonus: the tomato soup dipping sauce AND fries with melted marshmellow.
Great sandwiches off the main strip. Quirky decor on the inside. This place is fantastic!
We can’t get enough of these Peruvian-style gourmet sandwiches. Located on the edge of Wilton Manors, this place is the best spot in town for a steak sandwich and an Inca Kola (tastes like bubble gum).
The best brunch in town (as long as you’re down for a wild atmosphere). They have some of the most decadent breakfast items you’ll ever encounter.
This shop has chocolate from every corner of the Earth. It’s pretty incredible. Not only do they have an impressive collection of chocolate, they also have tons of kitcshy items that range from I Love Lucy koozies to fun socks.
Looking for vintage clothing or a Halloween costume? Look no furthur than the Out Of The Closet location in Wilton Manors.
