5 Must-Do Activities Before Summer Break Ends

Posted on Seasonal Weather, The Cooler Blog August 10, 2017

Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has plenty of fun indoor and outdoor activities for people of all ages. When you’re looking for something to do this summer, consider visiting one of these five places.

Anne Kolb Nature Center

You’ll find this nature reserve about 11 miles away in Hollywood, Florida. With over 1,500 acres of coastal mangrove wetlands, this area has various animals such as crabs, alligators, and birds. If you’re lucky, you may spot a night heron or an osprey.

You can explore the wetlands by taking a boat tour or checking out the walking trails. For a spectacular view, make sure to climb the 68-foot tall observation tower. The nature center also has an exhibit hall where you can learn more about the local wildlife.

NSU Art Museum

Make the most of a rainy day by visiting the NSU Art Museum. Its permanent collection includes more than 7,000 works. Take a look at the largest collection of art by the American painter William J. Glackens, and then view the Latin American and Cuban art by Joaquin Torres-Garcia, Frida, Kahlo, and Diego Rivera.

Make sure you visit the temporary exhibitions that are on display this summer. The Regeneration Series features the post-World War II works of Anselm Kiefer. In July, the museum will display Human Animals: The Art of Cobra. You can visit the museum for free on the first Thursday of every month between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Fort Lauderdale Beach

AllYearCooling AC MaintenanceIf you’re looking for a more relaxing activity, stop by Fort Lauderdale Beach. This family-friendly spot is popular because of its beautiful clear water and its close proximity to shops and restaurants. Spend the day swimming, snorkeling, rollerblading or sunbathing. Bring your favorite beach toys and play frisbee or water football. Pack a lunch and make use of the picnic tables. This place is perfect for those hot summer days.

Bluefoot Pirate Adventures

Do you want to give your kids a great time? Make a reservation with Bluefoot Pirate Adventures and head over to Seabreeze Blvd in Fort Lauderdale. The company provides daily interactive cruises. The kids get to wear pirate clothes, learn how to talk like pirates, and search for treasure. Meanwhile, the adults get the Captain’s tour of local landmarks along the Intracoastal Waterway. The entire experience is 90 minutes long.

Museum of Discovery and Science

This museum in downtown Fort Lauderdale has interactive exhibits that are fun for the whole family. The EcoDiscovery section of the museum has five new areas: Prehistoric Florida, Storm Center, Florida Water Mysteries, Otters at Play, and Everglades Airboat Adventure.

Both kids and adults can jump into a dig pit to uncover fossils or experience a storm with the hurricane simulator. Watch a film at the IMAX 3D Theater. Afterward, stop by Auntie Anne’s and treat yourself to some fresh pretzels.

At the end of the day, you’ll want to come back to a cool home. Make sure your AC unit is in top shape by scheduling a preventive maintenance visit with All Year Cooling. Our technicians will help keep your home cool and comfortable so you always feel ready for your next adventure.
