How to Have the Coolest Memorial Day Ever!
Posted on The Cooler Blog May 18, 2016 by Jonathan Williams
Memorial Day falls on May 30th this year and for those of us lucky enough to have the day off, that means a super cool three day weekend to wrap up May in style. We’ve all heard the expression: “a weekend well spent brings a week of content.” With that in mind, we’ve put together a few ideas to help you spend this upcoming three day weekend having a blast!
1. Get a giant Jenga set
Jenga is fun for kids of all ages (even the grown up ones). A giant version of this classic game amps up the fun factor even more! There are plenty of them available for purchase online, but if you’re handy with power tools, this DIY version will help you save some cold, hard, cash (if you already have the tools, that is).
2. No pool? No problem!
If you don’t have a pool but still want to stay cool this Memorial Day, try an oversized kiddie pool! You can pick one up at your local big box retailer (select the largest size one you can find), fill it up, put some plastic lawn chairs or beach chairs inside, and you have a family-friendly wading pool that will help you beat the heat. The four-legged members of the family will love it, too!
3. DIY Water Park
This easy do-it-yourself project will show you how to make a mega-sprinkler perfect for running through on a hot summer day. This project involves affordable materials and is easily modified to make an ultimate super-soaker style obstacle course.
4. S’mores and Smiles
Nothing says summer like an ooey-gooey, melty s’more! Not only are these treats easy, but you can add cookie dough, Reese’s peanut butter cups, sprinkles, and even cut up fruit to make these treats even more awesome. You can roast marshmallows over a grill (or make your own firepit) and let the fun begin!
5. Backyard Camping
If you can’t get away this Memorial day, why not try backyard camping? If you don’t already have your own camping equipment, chances are you know someone who will lend you some. You can even make your own tent out of an inexpensive tarp. Add some blankets, pillows, flashlights, and scary stories, and you’ve got yourself an awesome three-day weekend adventure!
